Val di terra
Luna Azzurra, meaning “Blue Moon” is a rare find, that is fit for the stars
I was privileged to receive an invitation to attend an exclusive launch of the new Luna Azzurra Reserve wine by Val Di Terra. On 13 November 2021 with great excitement and anticipation, I navigated my way through a typical highveld afternoon storm to the function. As the storm passed, the evening sky became crystal clear and the venue, a roof top setting decorated with an array of fairy lights, created a magical constellation fitting for the prestigious event.
Val DI Terra wines are great value gift ideas
The evening kicked off with a tutored tasting of Val Di Terra wines which is a range of wines produced by Ken Forrester. We tasted all five varietals, being a Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé and three red wines: Merlot, Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon. Every wine is superb and at under R100 a bottle, they offer excellent value for money. The wines are available in cases of 6 and for the festive season, Val Di Terra have launched a series of 3 pack sets which are ideal for corporate and christmas gifts. All these wines are available online and for first time shoppers, you get a 10% discount off your first order.
Live music by PVT LTD
Adding to the ambience, a live band called Private Limited, aka PVT LTD, entertained us with an incredible performance of rock, rhythm and blues. This versatile and extremely talented outfit comprising three guitarists and a drummer, all accomplished vocalists as well, cover an array of genres with their music ranging from the 60’s to current.
Luna Azzurra is a limited edition Rhône styled blend
The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of Luna Azzurra. To the music of Billy Joel, we watched in awe as this beautiful, limited-edition magnum was revealed. Luna Azzurra means “Blue Moon” and was specifically crafted by Ken Forrester for Val Di Terra from a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvédre. The label was designed by Jeni Bradford from Flavr and it is packaged in a stylish box.

A rare find
Only 200 bottles were produced and almost all were sold out by the end of the evening. I was lucky enough to sample this fine nectar and it was truly a memorable experience. This is certainly a “once in a blue moon” rare find!
